Don’t get me wrong, I love being a kid of the 90’s and early 00’s. I remember a time without internet, can you imagine?!
But, I often want for a simpler time… a time where, you made plans and couldn’t cancel because the person would already be on their way to meet you, there were no cell phones by the way. Where you got a handwritten note or letter in the mail. Where right and wrong were maybe a little more clear…
It seems that my generation likes to make truth to be whatever fits our feelings. And feelings change, a lot! Do they not?
Truth. What comes to your mind when you hear that word?
Is it absolute? Or is fluid? Can it be changed based the circumstances? The situation?
The answer is going to shock people, perhaps mostly millennials. There is absolute truth. It is found in the Bible, the living and active Word of God.
I know, I know. People are going to stop reading after that because I mentioned God and the Bible, in the same sentence no less! Because they “don’t do religion”, maybe?
Well, first of all, Jesus is my savior, not my religion. I have a relationship with Jesus, which takes time and effort to cultivate. Religion is a man-made tool to impose their thoughts and limits on God and require impossible standards to live up to. There are so many types of religions, I know. And it’s confusing. I want to let you know that we, humans, make it confusing. I hold the idea that God is pretty straightforward. His yes is yes and His no is no. He alone is the creator of right and wrong. The Bible says, “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9 ESV). I don’t see a lot of room for interpretation there, do you?
I don’t want to come off as if I know it all, far from it! But I just had a sense of urgency to proclaim that there is absolute truth and we need to stop hiding from it!
So what does this have to do with millennials? Millennials have come to the conclusion that truth is what they make it. Guys, it’s not a pizza. You cannot go half and half! Right is right and wrong is wrong.
And yes, this a broad statement and you may come up with some scenario of why this wrong was right because of this or that. Well, I would challenge you to ask for wisdom from God. To search His word and see what He has to say about that particular wrong and that particular situation.
“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” James 1:5 NLT
By no means, am I trying to be high and mighty here. Again, I just wanted to say, I believe wholeheartedly that there is absolute truth!
How can there not be? There has to be standard for morality. For ethics. I am proclaiming that the standard was and is set by the almighty God, creator of the heavens and the earth.
What about you? What do you say about truth? I pray for you, friend, reading this, that you would have have an open heart and mind and challenge what the world and your feelings have been telling you about truth.
If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything…
